When booking your trial lesson, you will be choosing either a core curriculum trial lesson, or a specialist tuition trial lesson. Ahead of your lesson we recommend setting up an account on the relevant coding language.

If you are having trouble creating an account prior to your lesson, your teacher will be happy to spend the first few minutes of your trial helping you set up.

Core curriculum online tuition

If you have not specified a language that you would like to start your child on in their trial lesson, you can download an account based on their age.

Scratch Jr (5-6 years old) - please download the Scratch Jr app on an iPad or tablet device. Your child can then code on the iPad/tablet, and interact with their teacher via Zoom on another device. Simply search 'Scratch Jr' on the App Store.

Scratch (6-7 years) - Or for 8 years old with no touch typing/coding experience. Set up an account for your child on Scratch: https://scratch.mit.edu/join. Accounts are free to create, and we recommend verifying your email address so your child can share their projects with their tutor.

Bitsbox (JavaScript) or Python (8-10 years old) - at this age it's likely you have a more specific idea of what your child would like to focus on. We hope you mentioned if they prefer JavaScript or Python in your booking notes, but if not please get in touch with us at hello@blueshiftcoding.com. We recommend either JavaScript (using Bitsbox) or Python (using Trinket):

p5.js (JavaScript) or Python (10+ years old) - at this age, it's likely your child has a preference for either JavaScript or Python:

Specialised online tuition

Minecraft can be a bit tricky to set up which is why we've created a guide specifically for it: http://help.blueshiftcoding.com/en/articles/3849125-minecraft-modding-setup-guide. The main thing to do is to make sure you have downloaded the Java Edition of Minecraft: https://www.minecraft.net/en-us/download/. We'll provide a LearnToMod account for you.
