This club introduces children to robotics and coding. Through a series of hands-on activities, children can embark on an engineering journey, learn about robots, and develop their coding skills. Robotics also help build science, technology and maths (STEM) knowledge while incorporating lessons in language arts. 

Club Curriculum:

This is a club that introduces children to robotics and coding. With a variety of cool hands-on activities, children can embark on an engineering journey, learn about robots, and develop their coding skills.

During the club, we explore LEGO WeDo and build robotic LEGO models! LEGO WeDo helps build science, technology and maths (STEM) knowledge while incorporating lessons in language arts. We make machines that move and sense distance, and program them using the Scratch coding language.

With its easy to understand block-based format, Scratch gives new coders the tools to rapidly create and experiment with code. Students gain knowledge in how code works, and develop their problem solving and logical reasoning skills by working out the code instructions and solving bugs that occur along the way.

The Lego WeDo app is also a great way to build up students’ drag-and-drop skills, which prepare students for advanced mouse and trackpad techniques - a key element of ICT and modern technology.

Children also get to express their creativity by drawing codes for line-following robots to track and race their robots against each other.

We will also get to use some other exciting robots. Children will learn all about Ozobots, build and program Mbots, and find out how robots are used today in wider society.
 
This adventure is fun, entertaining, creative, and most importantly, valuable as children will develop essential computational thinking and creative problem-solving skills. This hands-on club will provide fun off-screen activities as well as help children gain an understanding in coding languages.

Learning Outcomes:

By attending this club, students become confident users of technology. They develop drag-and-drop skills, develop heir coordination and improve their problem solving and logical reasoning skills.

By building and programming robots, students gain an understanding in computer programming and engineering concepts. Children learn how some parts of lego can become smart robots that are able to move on command. They also gain an understanding in how Scratch, the most commonly used programming language for primaries, works.

Students develop knowledge in the following topics:

  • Computer literacy: using the keyboard and mouse with ease
  • How do robots work and what can we use them for?
  • Building and programming robots
  • Computational thinking
  • Intro to Scratch
  • Logic games
  • Problem solving
